Adonai (A-do-ni) Elohim (Eh-low-heem):  The Lord God.  In both English and Hebrew texts “Adonai” is often used as a substitute for God’s holy name.

“These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God YAHU’AH ELOHIM made and worked the earth and the heavens, and every plant shrub of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew sprouted: for the Lord God YAHU’AH ELOHIM had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man no Adam to till and serve the ground soil.  But there went up ascended a mist from the earth, that watered and moistened the whole face of the ground soil.  And the Lord God YAHU’AH ELOHIM formed Adam of the dust of the ground soil, and breathed puffed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man Adam became a living soul.”  Genesis 2:4-7
